Pride Arts in the Alley

Stonewall Columbus kicks off a month of Pride Celebration activities with the first in a series of monthly screenings to be co-presented by Stonewall and Gateway Film Center. A variety of films will be presented through the partnership, ranging from comedies to documentaries, local theatrical premieres to old favorites, all with ties to the LBGT community. And all proceeds benefit Stonewall Columbus.
The debut feature, Manuela and Manuel. is Puerto Rican filmmaker Raul Marchand’s vividly colorful comedy about Manuel, a drag revue performer who agrees to pose as the fiance of his pregnant best friend, before he finds out that he already knows her big, burly father – one of his biggest fans at the club where Manuel becomes Manuela.
The June 3 screening coincides with Pride-themed Arts in the Alley events happening that evening from 6-9 p.m.: a book launch and art show opening by local artist Jonathan Lathram featuring large-format photography of Columbus drag performers and a live outdoor drag revue featuring Nina West. Representatives of Stonewall Columbus will be out with Pride Celebration calendars and to sell dog tags to the 2010 Pride Celebration. Anyone wearing Pride 2010 dogtags will receive free admission to the June 3 screening.
